This recipe marks another important even in Tita's life. This event also causes her heartbreak in the long run. The event is the baptism of her nephew, the first son of Pedro and Rosaura. Just like Tita's passion for cooking, Pedro and Tita were exchanging passionate glances. "Tita knew how her own flesh how fire transforms the elements, how a lump of corn flour is changed into a tortilla, how a soul that hasn't been warmed by the fire of love is lifeless, like a useless ball of corn," (Esquivel, 67). This quote shows that Tita's passion for cooking were the same as her passion for Pedro by describing her passion through food.
