In this chapter, there isn't much of a tie between the recipe and the major event of the story. However, the mood of Tita on this particular day could have foreshadowed the following event: the death of her nephew. Tita was so distraught, she could not concentrate on anything. "The only thing she accomplished during this period was to quintuple the size of her enormous bedspread," (Esquivel, 93). This quote shows that Tita was completely distraught by her nephew's death, that she couldn't even do the one thing she loved, cooking.
