October: Cream Fritters
- 1 cup of heavy cream
- 6 eggs
- cinnamon
- syrup
This recipe marks Tita's confession. Her confession was that she still is deeply in love with Pedro, after all these years. The recipe calls for 6 eggs, which needed to be cracked in a careful way. The cracked eggs represent Tita's broken heart. She was longing for Pedro. She didn't tell him that she was pregnant with his child. Gertrudis, Tita's sister, lets the cat out of the bag, ". . . I think you should tell Pedro you're expecting his child," (Esquivel, 191). And in that moment, Pedro dropped the bag because he was startled. This marked a turning point in the story, where Pedro was seriously considering leaving Rosaura for Tita.
